Building on the success of its first Centre of Excellence in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, opened in collaboration with the Uttarakhand government in 2023, Philips Education is set to launch additional training centers across the country. This expansion will extend to Bihar, Odisha, and Karnataka, where a partnership with Tata Technologies is already in place.
The pioneering ed-tech company is dedicated to bridging the gap between industry demands and the availability of skilled workers. By providing students with hands-on training in advanced technologies and machinery, Philips Education is ensuring that India's manufacturing sector can thrive and compete on a global scale. "Training with advanced technologies ensures that manufacturing will take full force in India, and not just be concentrated in countries like China," stated Rakshit Kejriwal, the Global President of Philips Education.
The Centre of Excellence in Haridwar has already demonstrated remarkable success, with all 20 students from its initial three-month course securing employment. These students receive comprehensive training, learning how to control machines through computer systems in an intensive boot camp setting. Philips Education provides everything from the curriculum and equipment to the trainers themselves.
Kejriwal highlighted that a significant portion of students come from rural backgrounds and ITIs or Polytechnics, with their fees often covered by the government. A thorough screening process ensures that enrolled students possess a genuine aptitude for the industry. The company anticipates that graduates will see substantial career growth, with potential earnings reaching Rs 40,000-50,000 per month within three years.
Looking ahead, Philips Education sees immense potential in the Middle East, where there's a substantial demand for skilled manpower. The company is also exploring opportunities in Vietnam, the Philippines, and the USA. Unlike many other ed-tech companies, Philips Education prioritizes delivering value over aggressive marketing, relying on word-of-mouth and study fairs to attract students. This strategy focuses on hiring, training, and retaining talent, ensuring long-term success and a positive impact on India's workforce.
