Cochin International Airport is set to revolutionize its operations with the launch of CIAL 2.0, a ₹200-crore initiative to fully digitize the airport. The project promises enhanced passenger experiences through AI, automation, and cutting-edge cybersecurity, marking a significant leap forward for the airport.
Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) is poised to become a leader in airport innovation with the launch of its ambitious CIAL 2.0 project on May 19, 2025. This ₹200-crore initiative will fully digitize airport operations, promising enhanced efficiency, security, and passenger experiences through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and robust cybersecurity measures.
The centerpiece of CIAL 2.0 is the establishment of a state-of-the-art Cyber Defence Operations Centre (CDOC), the first on-premises server facility of its kind in an Indian airport. Supported by CDAC, the CDOC will provide real-time threat intelligence and 24/7 proactive monitoring to neutralize and pre-empt cyber threats, including hacking attempts and malware intrusions. This proactive approach underscores CIAL's commitment to safeguarding its digital infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its operations.
In addition to enhanced security, CIAL 2.0 will introduce several passenger-friendly improvements. Full-body scanners will provide fast, contactless, and non-intrusive passenger screening that meets international standards, ensuring seamless yet thorough security checks without compromising passenger comfort. The deployment of the Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) at security checkpoints will further improve passenger convenience and processing speed by automating the movement of security trays.
"Cochin International Airport is embracing the future with CIAL 2.0—a visionary leap into digital transformation that puts intelligence at the heart of every operation," said S Suhas, Managing Director. "These projects are part of a comprehensive upgrade of CIAL’s digital backbone, including the safeguarding of digital infrastructure, enhancement of security and operational efficiency, introduction of next-generation security systems, and improved passenger convenience through AI-driven solutions."
The launch of CIAL 2.0, to be unveiled by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, signifies Cochin International Airport's commitment to innovation and its dedication to providing a world-class experience for its passengers. By embracing cutting-edge technologies and prioritizing cybersecurity, CIAL is setting a new standard for airport operations and solidifying its position as a leader in the aviation industry.
